About This Course
This module examines the role of SDWAN in modern utility OT environments and explains how SDWAN and MPLS can work together rather than compete with one another. It covers the architecture of an SDWAN overlay over an existing SONET underlay, including the use of Ethernet services, MPLS, diverse transport paths, and SDWAN nodes.

The module also presents a four-phase implementation approach, beginning with optimizing existing SONET rings and progressing through EtherLAN/EtherLine services, MPLS aggregation, and the deployment of SDWAN. It then looks at how NOC capabilities can evolve through improved visibility, centralized data, automation, analytics, and proactive monitoring.

Finally, the module explores future-state considerations including 4G/5G and satellite transport diversity, MPLS Segment Routing, and the continued role of SDWAN in managing IP services.
Target Audience
  • Utility and telecommunications professionals
  • Network, engineering, and technology professionals
  • Professionals involved in utility network modernization or OT communications
  • Anyone interested in SDWAN, MPLS, and modern utility network architecture
Prerequisites
No formal prerequisites.

Basic familiarity with utility communications, networking, or OT environments may be helpful, but the module introduces the main concepts needed to follow the discussion.
